5 ARKit 3 Features That Will Change The Augmented Reality Scene Forever

by Perjan Duro, Founder

Apple is currently the biggest guy pushing AR or Augmented Reality forward. ARKit is extremely powerful, especially when compared to the other offerings which I might add are quite rubbish when compared to ARKit, and come this September it will become even better. How? Well, here are 5 upcoming features that will change the AR scene as we know it:

People Occlusion

If you saw the Minecraft Earth demo they did at WWDC19, you know what I am talking about. Now AR content realistically passes behind and in front of people in the real world, making AR experiences more immersive while also enabling green screen-style effects in almost any environment. The possibilities that this feature will bring are practically endless.

Multiple Face Tracking

While you can already place an Animoji or Memoji on your face with perfect tracking, soon you will be able to track up to three faces at once and that's crazy powerful. Yes, you and two other friends can have dog ears at the same time in a photo, but this tech can be used for so much more and we are really excited to see where it goes from there.

Motion Capture

Motion Capture is usually done in big studio spaces with tons of cameras around the subjects wearing those goofy looking motion tracking suits. Well, now you will be able to capture the motion of a person in real time with a single camera. How crazy is that?

By understanding body position and movement as a series of joints and bones, you can use motion and poses as an input to the AR experience — placing people at the center of AR.

Simultaneous Front and Back Camera

This might seem like a small thing, but it's quite big when you really thing about it. One thing that AR lacks right now is how you interact with it. Tapping or swiping a screen doesn't feel quite intuitive or natural. Well, now you can simultaneously use face and world tracking on the front and back cameras, opening up new possibilities. For example, users can interact with AR content in the back camera view using just their face.

Collaborative Sessions

With live collaborative sessions between multiple people, you can build a collaborative world map, making it faster for you to develop AR experiences and for users to get into shared AR experiences like multiplayer games.

We at Imperium Apps love AR and already have some AR apps out there like Particular and are currently working on some secret stuff. We cannot wait to see  where Apple takes Augmented Reality. And if their latest job openings for AR/VR are any indication, we are in for a treat! What do you guys think about Augmented Reality? Leave your responses down below!
