What I have learned and why you should do it too
More than 4 months ago, I registered legally Imperium Apps GmbH. But for the last months, I was not able to join my own company full time.
So starting from July 1st, I am focusing completely on Imperium Apps.
Why I quit my job
I wanted to do this for a long time now. It has always been my dream to follow my passion and be my own boss, or at least have the client or the user as my ultimate “boss”.
That is why I decided to take the leap and follow my gut.
Why I founded a company
Until 3 months ago I believed that this was the motivation: I wanted to work on products that made a difference in this world.
That was my calling and my objective. And that thought brought me through the tough times toward my goal of starting a new company.
Now, that still stays true, but after watching an amazing video from Larry Ellison last month, it kinda shifted my opinion and gave me a new perspective.
Somewhere in the video, he says that he never wanted to build a multibillion-dollar company with thousands of employees.
He just wanted to build the perfect environment for him and his friends, the working place that he dreamed about.
This message hit me like a brick and every day when I wake up think about it.
Although it may sound a bit superfluous said from Larry Ellison, I think that this is the truth. At least it is for me.
So that is what I would do. I will build the perfect place where like-minded people can be part of something bigger than themselves.
I will start by hiring the most important employee of them all, it is called “Culture”.
What am I doing now
In order to achieve my objective of a perfect workplace for my startup, I need to take care of a lot of stuff.
Mostly paperwork (yeah, we here in Germany love paperwork… No, we don’t, but the government does…).
At the same time, I am thinking of expanding our office to a better place, with more possibilities and a super central location.
On top of all of that, I am supporting actively the local startup community in Nuremberg, by organizing meetups like this or this.
How the first 10 days went
As you may know, Imperium Apps wants to set itself as one of the most innovative companies in the region.
The latest technologies motivate us and we want to experiment with everything, especially Apple stuff.
Luckily enough, I got an awesome client that is creating an innovative platform for iOS and Apple TV.
So we are developing their platform and apps right now.
I will do another post on this one to let you know more.
At the same time, we are helping a huge media company here in Germany to renew their app and instill new life into their apps.
The app was developed initially for iOS 4. It was updated constantly after that, but we are working with Swift to bring it to “today”
But my day to day operations is mostly programming, speaking with clients and doing some running.
Overall, these first ten days have been amazing. Painfully tiring, but amazing.
There are a lot of things that you never imagined, such as speaking to tax advisors, preparing invoices for the bookkeeping, changing tax advisors, other stupid costs that you never knew they existed, etc.
But somehow, it feels liberating to write this blog post and share my thoughts with you guys.
Stay informed of what happens in the life of a startup, so you can learn from my success and my mistakes.
